Between 1998 and 2006, Mazda vehicles were imported and distributed by PT Unicor Prima Motor before the distribution was taken over by Mazda Motor Corporation, creating PT Mazda Motor Indonesia as the only importer and distributor. The handover marked the top of manufacturing of the domestically assembled Mazda E2000 which was introduced in 1996, and in addition saw PT Unicor Prima Motor transformed into Chery automotive distributor. Mazda Motor Indonesia solely relied on importing its line-up of automobiles from Japan, Thailand and the Philippines, besides the Suzuki-made Mazda VX-1 . In 1946 General Motors Overseas Operations established a Batavia Branch (later renamed “Djakarta Branch”) to proceed the pre-war activities, building almost 20,000 automobiles within the next six years. By 1953, activities had mostly ended as Sukarno’s pro-Chinese authorities took power.
